Bundaberg’s spirit of service, leadership and community pride was proudly recognised as local residents and organisations were honoured in the Australia Day 2026 Awards, celebrating outstanding contributions across civic, cultural, sporting and community life.
The awards highlight the extraordinary people who go above and beyond to make Bundaberg a stronger, more connected community – from volunteers and creatives to sporting leaders and community groups.
National Honours Recognition
Bundaberg was especially proud to see local leaders acknowledged in the Australia Day Honours List.

Bundaberg Australia Day Award Recipients
At the local level, Bundaberg Regional Council recognised a diverse group of individuals and organisations whose commitment has strengthened the community.
Citizen of the Year
Recipients included Max Francis, a Director of the Bundaberg RSL Club, recognised for his leadership and contribution to community and civic life.
Young Citizen of the Year
Local young leaders were acknowledged for their positive impact and commitment to the future of the Bundaberg region.
Senior Citizen of the Year
Among the recipients was Betty Hawkins, a valued Bundaberg RSL Sub Branch member, recognised for her longstanding service and dedication to the community.
Sportsperson, Creative Citizen and Community Group of the Year
Awards were also presented to outstanding individuals and organisations across sport, creative arts and community service, reflecting the diversity and strength of Bundaberg’s local talent and volunteer spirit.
